Target Corporation provides corporate grants only for 'gay and lesbian causes':   False.

Target Corporation does not contribute to the U.S. Marines 'Toys for Tots' program:   False.

Target does not allow reservists called to active duty to continue their health benefits:   False.

Origins:   As Strother Martin's character wryly observed in the film Cool Hand Luke, "What we've got here is failure to communicate."

Dick Forrey, a member of the Indiana-based Howard County Vietnam Veterans organization, rashly penned the above message in March 2002 after failing to secure a $100 sponsorship for a travelling Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall exhibit from his local Target store. Mr. Forrey was rebuffed, because Target does not give out cash donations through local stores; they donate money only at the corporate level, and only through grants to organizations falling within their defined general areas of giving. Mr. Forrey has since apologized for his mistake and issued a retraction:

I made a mistake on this one, and I've learned a hard lesson — that's for sure. What started out as a message for the members in our organization has turned into a hate-type thing. I never wanted to start any national boycott. I just wish it would all stop.

Some people have used my words and perpetuated lies. It's sad that some of these people would use veterans as a way to push their own political views. I've sent out a retraction, and no one pays any attention.

Target also explained their side of the story:

We want to clearly and completely apologize for any misunderstanding regarding Target's support of the Vietnam Wall and our corporate giving program. Giving back to the communities where our stores are located is something we're proud to do. In fact, nationwide, Target Corporation gives more than $2 million a week to the communities in which we serve.

Theft Of A 1989 Dodge Dynasty Nov 2004

In September 2004 a call comes into the Veterans Post News office from Sarasota, wanting to know where they can donate their car, a 1989 Dodge Dynasty, but they wanted to be sure that it went to a Veteran.

The Veterans Post contacted Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9, as we were aware that they are among several Veterans organizations who take in vehicles.

A couple of weeks later, arrangements were made, and members of Chapter 9 with a member of the Veterans Post staff drove down to Sarasota with a car dolly to retrieve the vehicle.

The people were very kind and hospitable, the group left having made new friends in Sarasota and they would wait for DAV 9 to send them their receipt for the vehicle so they can use it as a tax claim.  The car was taken to the DAV Chapter Home at 4801 37th Avenue North in Saint Petersburg.

In December of 2004 word comes from the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council stating that the Veterans Post Newspaper has stolen a vehicle (1989 Dodge) and using it for their personal use. One of the family members who donated the car could not recall anyone’s name or the DAV Chapter number, but they remembered the Veterans Post Newspaper.

Tom McKeon, (a one-time candidate for the sheriff’s office) made a motion to press criminal charges against the Veterans Post.  A member of DAV Chapter 9 was present at that meeting and said that the Post had nothing to do with the vehicle and it was now in the hands of a Veteran who needed a vehicle.  Cooler heads prevailed, and the council decided to do nothing.

Well the truth did not slow down the rumor mongers and onto the internet they went, telling everyone with an email address about the Post and the stolen car. Even in February of 2005, the rumor was still going strong.

Larry King the Commander of DAV Chapter 9 at that time, kept telling people at the Veterans Council that it was his fault that he mis-filed the tax donation document for the people in Sarasota, but it has been taken care of and the Post had nothing to do with it.

But of course the truth never stopped anybody from continuing to tell lies.

Top 100 Women Of The 20th Century Aug 1999

The story goes that jane fonda is going to be recognized as one of the top 100 women of the 20th Century and you have to send notice to Barbara Walters to stop this from happening.  Well unless you have a time machine... It already happened back in 2000.

Some people are saying that it happened a long time ago and she has apologized for it and she was only a mere 19 years of age at the time so she didn't know what she was doing.

The truth is she was 34½ years of age (born Dec 21, 1937) at the time of her appearance in Vietnam (July 1972) and was no mere teen! Further her so-called apology was done through a publicist and jane has never (to our knowledge) gone public to speak to any Vietnam Veterans to apologize.
